Share your Migraine-Fighting Recipe!
We're always on the lookout for great recipes! Migraine-fighter recipes (or at least migraineur-friendly recipes) can be hard to find. But now is your chance to share your recipe with migraineurs around the world!
The truth is that very few recipes are migraine friendly for
everyone. That's because migraine triggers are different for everyone. Someone may get an attack at the first taste of cheddar cheese. For another, it's no problem.
So I'm not going to say what you can and can't put in your recipe - but I'm going to offer some suggestions. Below are some of the
most common food triggers - that is, foods that are
not friendly for migraine patients.
Please try to avoid them if you can, or include very small quantities.
- Raw onions
- Aged cheese
- Fresh yeast bread
- White flour/refined grains
- Citrus fruit
- Bananas
- Pomegranates
- Processed or aged meat (ie hot dogs, pepperoni, lunch meat)
- Peanuts
- Walnuts
- Alcohol
- Artificial sweeteners
- MSG
- Worcestershire or teriyaki sauce
This is only a sample of the foods that can trigger migraine, but these tend to be common ones.
Other tips? Well, many migraineurs today are trying
gluten free recipes. Also, the less processed the better. Avoid pre-canned soups, pre-made sauces, and go for recipes that can be made from scratch.
Also, time-consuming complicated recipes are never a good idea for someone with chronic pain. Be cautious of recipes that require a lot of time and attention.
