first migraine with aura

first migraine with aura

i have suffered from migraines without auras for years. i had a hysterectomy 4 months ago and have not had any since the surgery. a few days ago i had a silent migraine with the patterns of light. i thought i was dying -- i told my son to call 911 if i passed out. the first thing i did when it ended was try to draw out what it was like in photoshop. here is what it looked like when i tried to find the eye doctor's number on yahoo.

I'm sorry you're going through this right now. Yes, when i get an ocular migraine (around twice a year) i lie diwn and watch the show. It usually lasts about an hour or less. Then i feel pressure and slight pain behind my left eye for a few days. The zig zags Go around and around in a perfect circle and grow and shrink. Before it starts i can't see anything on the left at all, everything us blocked by the lights. I hope you are feeling better soon!!! as the years go by i get them less and less. The first year i had about 6 now im down to about two. I wish the same for you. Take care :)

zigzags
by: Cheryl

Great reading.I have been getting these auras since 1997..I wondered also what was going on.Right at this minute I am in the middle of one.Mine start off small about an inch and grow,it is weird because before mine end the zig zag has enlarged to the size of the room.I close my eyes and it seems to be pulsating and moves around always on my left side.I am timing this one it started at 5 pm Australian time..so far it has been 20 minutes and it is slowly disappearing now,but I do have a bit of a throb near my left eye..I find there is a dull spot at first then notice the half circle of what I had always called them lightning bolts. My optometrist explained these to me..Good to know I am not the only one who has these..

thank you for your response. this site is a great place to learn more about your migraine and how to deal with it and possible prevent it. i'm sorry to hear that you have to experience these. if you keep a journal for a month or so and see which food you are eating that could trigger it, you might be able to manage them. good luck and take care!

First time it happened to me I thought I lost my mind.Three times in the past year, last one in June.
First the blind spots, then the crazy light show.
Hope it never happens when I am driving.

You have totally drawn what I've been seeing...It's always a bright yellow and blocks out part of what I'm viewing..Never a headache though....My eye feels full and strained....Very Very annoying !!!

Aura
by: Anonymous

Yes Allyson that's what it often looks like to start (the aura, that is). But don't be scared if it occasionally changes ... I sometimes get a "warning" -- what I call Halley's Comet goes flying by my field of vision. The most important thing is to get into a comfortably dark room and sleep it off(or at least rest). Remember, auras seldom last more than 30 minutes, altho they do sometimes return during the same "attack". I've had as many as three, but this is rare. Don't try to drive during an aura, or use a computer. It'll just make it worse.

As you probably now know - you're not alone! But it can be frightening when you don't know what's going on (actually, even when you do!).
