Instant Torment

Instant Torment

It's not *exactly* what I see right before a migraine hits, because I can't ever seem to focus on it and study it - when I try, it moves out of my direct field of vision and sits on the periphery. But this is as close as I can get to it. I hope someone can relate to it.

first aura NEW
by: Parrot

first experienced headaches Jan 31, 2016.
Symptoms didn't immedeatley trend toward migrane but instead new persistant daily.
today i had my first aura, and it looks eriely similar to this.

Closing my eyes i follow it. opening my eyes I see it every time I blink. it's always a yellow-green color, and not trying to be a perv- but it sort of looks like labia.

My sentiments exactly...
by: Anonymous

I get the blind spot too. As someone else already described here, it starts with that and then the aura seems to "mold" itself around that until the blind spot becomes the shimmering, shifting, undulating aura that gradually takes over my vision and then subsides. Thank you all for your comments.

Occular aura
by: Jimbo

This is just as I see it, but firstly with the blind spot (and the dreaded realization that I need some medication, quick!). As 'anonymous' states, mine zig zags on the periphery and increases in size, before fading out of view.
If I don't manage to take some migraine medication, such as ibuprofen lyceine, the dreaded headache can be severe about 30 minutes later. I usually also need a day or two to shake off that groggy 'hangover' feeling.

Similar aura
by: Anonymous

The picture is similar to my aura, but first I get a blind spot that increases in size. As it gets bigger, there are shimmery zigzag lines around part of it. The crescent gets bigger along with the blind spot until it gradually disappears out of view and my sight returns. The first time I experienced this aura I thought I was having a stroke, it was so bizarre. There is seldom a headache associated with it. It was diagnosed as Occular Migraine by an eye doctor. I get them in bouts and can go several years without one.

Relief
by: Beth G

Thank you so much for sharing your image, I have suffered from migraine for years and have only just found out about migraine aura art. It feels like there's a whole community out there and I'm no longer so alone with this awful affliction. My aura is similar to yours but without so much colour - yellow, black and turquoise are my main colours. I identified SO much with it moving around so not being able to get a proper fix on it. Thanks so much for this image!

Exactly

I woke up with this early this morning. Mine swirls. I have no pain, but I think my nausea is really motion sickness! It is beautiful though.

I've seen the zip-zap pattern with colors too, which usually tells me that a migraine is coming on. The pattern is always in the perephery, and somewhat resembles the zip-zap patterns on Hopi Indian pottery.
